Eclipse 3.7 and JBoss AS 7

On July 26, 2011, in Eclipse, Eclipse 3.7 (Indigo), JBoss Tools, STS, by lucasterdev

JBoss AS 7 Final is out!

Obviously, JBoss Tools 3.2 don’t support it: you need JBoss Tools 3.3.

But, AGAIN, JBoss Tools 3.3 don’t work with Helios: you need Indigo.

So, you switch to Indigo. You tediously find the new update sites for all your favorite plugins and everything is fine, right? WRONG. Because, OBVIOUSLY, not all plugins have versions compatible with Indigo yet. JBoss Tools is now even split in two distinct projects, so you need 2 update sites instead of one. AAAAAAAAAAARGH!!

Java EE development is commonly considered hard, because Java as a language is considered difficult to learn. Actually, the difficulty in using Java comes from managing the development tools, rather that the language itself! When configuring the development tools and getting them to work properly is almost as hard as learning the language, there’s something wrong.

(Sooner or later I should write a piece of stand-up comedy about all these issues…)

Anyway, here are the update sites for the major plugins for Eclipse 3.7:

Eclipse 3.7:    http://download.eclipse.org/releases/indigo
SpringSource Update Site for Eclipse 3.7 (Release):    http://dist.springsource.com/release/TOOLS/update/e3.7
SpringSource Update Site for Eclipse 3.7 (Release + Dependencies):    http://dist.springsource.com/release/TOOLS/composite/e3.7
JBoss Tools Core:    http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/development/indigo/
JBoss Tools SOA:   http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/development/indigo/soa-tooling
Subclipse:    http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.6.x

UPDATE:

Using MyFaces s:convertEntity to throw IllegalArgumentException: Id and clazz must not be null with Seam 2.2.2.Final and MyFaces 1.2. Using Mojarra 1.2 instead.
